Have you ever met a genius?

Last weekend,I was fortunate enough to attend the first annual Northwest
Pencak Silat Serak workshop, given by Guru Stevan Plinck.
I cannot say enough how incredible a fighter, and teacher he is.
Guru Mushtaq told me about it,and strongly suggested I go.I owe him a debt of gratitude
for that.
A week later, and I'm still trying to organize the thoughts and information he gave us.
Hopefully,I will make some sense of it,and post it here.
If you ever get a chance, train with him,it is more than worth it.

Why WeaselCraft?

I actually had someone write and ask what, exactly is WeaselCraft,
Why name my blog that, and what the hell is this blog about.
Other than the fact that I was shocked someone reads this, those are
fair questions.
I used to be the Moderator of the Weapons forum,on what used to be the best
internet forum for self defense.I got tagged with being a,and I quote,"street weasel
of the first order."by my Brother,Don Rearic.Which sums up my approach to street survival
very well.I believe the term was coined by Massad Ayoob, the shooting instructor,to describe
whatever you have to do to get home,as opposed to Traditional,or Eclectic Martial Arts.
I study Pencak Silat, and love it,but I have also pirated so many valuable things from so
many different arts, that it all kind of flows together into.....WeaselCraft.
Some of the influences are,all the Silat I have learned,of course, but include,Comtech and James
Keating,Datu Kelly Worden and his Natural Spirit Int'l,esp the Renegade JKD curriculum,
Marc "Animal" MacYoung, and his Applied Self Defense,Boxing,Savate(from Uncle Kevin),
sneaky shit I picked up from being a bouncer for 9 years, talks, emails, and whatnot with Don,and his website, which is linked in my link section, advice from Ken Cook,WW2 Combatives/Close Combat/whatever the cool term is today, mostly influenced by Carl Cestari,Ralph Grasso, and
Kelly McCann.
Suffice to say,it is not very traditional, and relies on being a little quicker, and meaner than the other guy,but it works.
I do put a lot of emphasis on weapons, because, face it,if someone is targetting you, they
probably have a reason for thinking they can take what you can dish. So,I believe them, and try
to even the odds in my favor.
So,I think I will try to make more posts in the future about WeaselCraft, and maybe, just maybe
some weapons work.

Hello evrybody

Once again, time flies, and weeks go by between posts.Sorry.
I have something I have to get off my chest,it's been bothering me for awhile.
Have you noticed how on any blog, forum, anywhere people interact, thru the 'net,
if you don't tow their partyline, you're not just wrong, but you're an Infidel?
I happen to be in the Self Defense area,so I really notice it there, but have recently
ventured out into the political, and Physical Fitness areas.
I am a strong believer in armed self defense(boy is that an understatement!),but if you
tell people it's easier to knock someone out with a fistload than an empty fist, your the anti-Christ.
Why are people so afraid of hearing something different.
My Brother and I don't see eye to eye on some issues, but we listen to each other, and don't denigrate each other, too much. It's because we know we don't have all the answers, and are wanting to find out more,to shape our opinions.
Why do people want to willingly remain stupid, and wall themselves off?
Oh well,more later.....
